Mark the Year of the Horse by creating your own tea-time capsule. A sealed canister of tea to age, with a personal message tucked inside.
Tea has long been intertwined with Lunar New Year traditions, from offering sweet tea to elders on the first morning to sharing pots with family over the fifteen days of celebration. In this workshop, we draw on another tradition: the practice of sealing tea away to be opened in the future, when both the leaves and the drinker have had time to transform.
You'll learn which teas take well to aging — oolongs that deepen into plummy sweetness over the years and dark teas that grow smoother and more complex with time. Together, we'll taste examples at different stages of age to understand what time does to a leaf. Then you'll stow away your own tea, write a message — a wish, a reflection, a note to your future self — seal it inside your canister, and take it home.
The number 88, a symbol of double fortune, feels fitting for an event about patience, intention, and prosperity. Open your capsule whenever you're ready — in a year, in five, or in ten. The tea will have changed, and so will the meaning of those words. Taiwan-inspired snacks accompany the experience.
